    The first pianist of that sessions was excellent. I'm gonna miss her in the third stage, I wonder how she would play Mazurkas. I loved her interpretation of Molto piu lento in Scherzo Op.20. I don't question jury decision, I'm not an expert, but I like Chopin a lot, when she plays. Well, what can I do about it, just listen again what she performed in the first and second stage, for now. Mayby she will be back in four years, good luck Wei-Ting Hsieh!

    NIKOLAY KHOZYAINOV wow what a talent! intelligent selection of works and in my opinion the most sophisticated, mature and professional of all the ones I have heard so far, he has such a nuanced sound, the clarity of his phrasing, the intelligence and quality of the internal articulations of the phrases, just to mention some of his many virtues, everything about him is truly extraordinary

    Watching Sohgo Sawada again after the announcement of the 2nd round results. This man should have passed, his talent is so much greater than many that have. Michelle Candoti- Professor Dmitry Alexeev, jury member Kamil Pacholec- wojciech switala, katazhina jury members Andrei Wiercinzki- wojciech switala, These are the most obvious ones that one should listen to and compare their playing to sagawas for example and see that their music sounds dead compared to his. He did make a few mistakes but that is not the reason he didn't pass, he didn't pass because no one with influence was pushing him He has won the hearts of public anyway and would now have an audience or even fans wherever he performs. We love you and your talent mr. Sawada, thank you for sharing your music🌞🌼♥️

      @Katarzyna Kowalska Its Quite Shocking Indeed. I fjnd the juries' choices of advancing Garcia pretty surprising. Choosing him over someone like Shindo is just plain weird. On the other hand, I want to see how Garcia plays the concerto (ironically) 😂

      And he played in a manner that would have displeased Chopin in the extreme. Perhaps, if you haven’t, read Chopin’s letters. Hearty banging, too-loud forte, sloppy attention to note values and dynamics and overdoing everything was antithetical to how Chopin saw his music played. Even Liszt had enough respect for Chopin to play his music as Chopin wanted it played. “Simplicity…”

    Is there really a need to for most of the pianists,if not all, to twist the face into fearful contortions?.When considering great pianists such as Sviatislav Richter.Rubinstein,Horo vits and Andre Schiff there is no such nonsense.

    • Joralemon Virgincreche
      Joralemon Virgincreche

      Facial expressions/contortions are a crutch the pianist uses to move themselves and the audience emotionally. When all your expression comes through the music, there's no need for facial contortions.

  • Benjamin Feldman
    Benjamin Feldman

    I state now my opinion of the winners. In first place is Chopin. Every piece is better than it can ever be played. The greatest playing we have heard merely gazes at these masterpieces from a distance. In second place is Steinway. I admit the Fazioli warmed up with playing, and under the hands of a player having physical heft like Armellini it gave a rich tone. However the two Steinway were superb and distinctive. Any player who opted for the lighter Japanese instruments gave up a tonal edge over their competitors. Chopin conquers the world and Steinway conquered the Warsaw stage.

    • Marshall Artz
      Marshall Artz

      The Steinways this year are magnificent sounding. I suspect the folks at Steinway weren’t too happy about all the contestants who chose Yamaha in 2015 and made sure that their pianos this year not only sounded great in the hall, but in recordings as well. 😎🎹

    Many recent pianists try to express the music not only through the sound, but through their facial expression. It is also OK, but I find it sometimes like a "show". Aimi Kobayashi has not so much facial expression, but she tries to express really the beautifulness of music or the thoughts of composers, and not herself! I love really her interpretation and wounderful sound! Even with closing eyes I can enjoy her music so much!

    All of them played wonderfully. I think NIKOLAY KHOZYAINOV set the bar in the competition for interpretive creativity and coherency. Plus his willingness to go above and beyond the menu of "standard pieces" for this stage. The A minor fugue was an unexpected gem. Bravo Nikolay!
